A
Convenient Coincidence
by Renee SpencerNovember 2009
She gave her head a
small shake. “I know this will sound odd, but I could have sworn
you just kissed me. It seemed so real. Silly is it not?”
Morgan wished he could say yes. But in good conscience he could
not. In fact, he was not sure how to respond. He shifted his
gaze to her. She stared straight ahead, as if afraid to see a
lie in his eyes. A flush stained her cheeks.
“No. Often times when we are unwell, our minds play tricks on
us. We lose time, are unable to tell whether something really
happened, or if it was just a dream. Do not worry yourself
unduly.”
“Then you do not think I have gone all about in the head?”
“Most certainly not.” If anyone had, it was him. For God’s sake,
he was the one who initiated the kiss, the one who took
advantage. Which was wrong. No matter how right it felt. What in
the world had possessed him to act as he had? Especially since
this poor woman was obviously unwell. “I am going to go back to
my chambers and do a little more research on your case. If you
start to feel worse I want you to send for me immediately. In
the meantime, why don’t you try and get some rest?”
“Yes.” Her lids fluttered. “I suppose that is probably a good
idea.”
He pulled the cover higher, giving her one final look.
And it would be a good idea if I get the hell out of here before
I find myself losing all my good sense.
* * *
Rosalind waited until the door shut behind Lord de Gray before
she gradually opened her eyes. Her fingers flew to her lips,
which tingled mysteriously. The man had kissed her. If she was
sure of nothing else, she was sure of that.
Almost.
